- 2 lbs flank steak (sliced thinly against the grain)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (use low-sodium if preferred)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)
- Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)
Instructions
- Start by preparing the steak. Slice it thinly against the grain to ensure maximum tenderness.
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, minced garlic, minced ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper.
- Place the sliced steak into your crock pot, and pour the sauce mixture over the meat.
- Cover the crock pot and set it to low for about 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- If you prefer your sauce thicker, mix one tablespoon of cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry.
- Once the time is up, serve the beef over a bed of rice or noodles and garnish with sliced green onions.
Notes
For gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce. You can also use chicken instead of beef for a lighter version.
