Description

A comforting dish of cabbage rolls stuffed with ground beef, rice, and flavorful seasonings, perfect for a cozy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef (or substitutes like ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cabbage. Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place it in the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes. Once the outer leaves start to soften, gently peel them off and place them on a plate. Continue until you have about 12 leaves.
  2. Make the Filling. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, tomato sauce (reserve some for later), Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix it all together until well incorporated.
  3. Assemble the Rolls. Take one cabbage leaf and place a generous scoop of filling at the base. Fold the sides over the filling, then roll it up tightly from the base to the tip. Repeat this for all the leaves.
  4. Prepare for Cooking. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread a thin layer of the reserved tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish.
  5. Bake. Pour additional tomato sauce over the stuffed rolls and cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil in the last 15 minutes for a nice caramelization on top.

Notes

You can use alternatives like quinoa or cauliflower rice for a low-carb version. To lighten it up further, consider vegetarian options such as lentils or plant-based meat.
