Description

Delightful pumpkin cinnamon rolls that are warm, fluffy, and infused with sweet cinnamon flavor, perfect for cozy fall days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it gets foamy.
  2. Stir in the melted butter, egg, and pumpkin puree into the yeast mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  3. Whisk together the flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients. Knead the dough until it’s smooth—this usually takes about 5 minutes.
  4. Oil a clean bowl and place your dough inside, turning it so all sides are coated. Cover the bowl and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 14×10 inches.
  6. Spread the softened butter across the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the top.
  7. Roll up the dough from the long side to create a tight log. Pinch the seam to seal it, then slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Cover the rolls again and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during this time.
  9. Bake the rolls for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. Drizzle this glaze over the warm rolls.

Notes

Consider using coconut sugar for a healthier alternative. For a vegan version, try almond milk and coconut oil.
