Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups chicken stock or broth
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs for extra flavor)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat chicken stock over medium heat, then add the chicken breasts and simmer for about 20 minutes or until fully cooked.
- Melt the butter in a separate pan over medium heat and sauté the onions until translucent, then add minced garlic and stir until fragrant.
- Sprinkle the flour over the mixture, stirring constantly to create a roux and cook until golden.
- Whisk in the milk gradually, stirring continuously to avoid lumps, and allow to simmer until thickened into gravy.
- Remove the chicken from the stock once cooked, let it rest, then slice and add to the gravy.
- Taste the gravy and season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs as desired.
Notes
For a lighter version, use olive oil instead of butter. Gluten-free? Substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
