Description
Creamy, flavorful garlic mashed potatoes that are a comforting side dish perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds of russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- ½ cup of unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup of heavy cream or whole milk
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
- Optional: sour cream, cream cheese, or grated cheese
Instructions
- Start by peeling your potatoes. Cut them into roughly equal pieces to ensure even cooking. Rinse them in cold water to remove excess starch.
- Place the chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a simmer on medium-high heat.
- While the potatoes are cooking, melt the butter on low heat in a small saucepan and add the minced garlic. Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
- Once the potatoes are fork-tender (about 15–20 minutes), drain them in a colander and return to the pot to steam off excess moisture.
- Use a potato masher to mash the potatoes, gradually mixing in the warm garlic butter and heavy cream until you reach your desired consistency.
- Season your mashed potatoes with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Optional: Top with chopped fresh parsley or stir in extra ingredients like cream cheese for added flavor.
Notes
For a healthier version, substitute olive oil for butter and almond milk for heavy cream.
