Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound of firm white fish (like cod, haddock, or tilapia)
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 cup of cold sparkling water (or club soda)
- Oil for frying (such as vegetable oil or canola oil)
Instructions
- Start by preparing your fish. Make sure it’s thawed if you’re using frozen fish. Pat the fillets dry with a paper towel.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Give it a good stir.
- Gradually whisk in the cold sparkling water until the mixture is smooth.
- Heat about an inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Dredge each fish fillet in the batter, letting any excess drip off.
- Carefully slide the battered fish fillets into the hot oil and cook in batches.
- Transfer the fried fish onto a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any excess oil.
Notes
For a healthier twist, consider using almond flour or baking instead of frying.
