Description

A warm and comforting dessert featuring a rich custard base flavored with eggnog and soaked bread, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread (French bread, challah, or brioche)
  • 4 cups eggnog
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 cup raisins or chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggnog, eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Tear or cut the bread into bite-size pieces and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Pour the eggnog mixture over the bread, ensuring every piece is well-coated.
  5. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes, soaking up the mixture.
  6. Push some bread pieces down into the liquid for a creamy base.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream, and drizzle with maple syrup or caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
