Description

A quick and easy homemade cranberry sauce that balances sweetness and tartness, perfect for any holiday meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any that are mushy or blemished.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Stir it over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the cranberries to the pot. Stir them in and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in the lemon juice, orange zest, and a pinch of salt, then simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

For a vegan version, ensure the sugar is organic. Adjust sweetness based on personal preference while cooking.
