Description
A warm, toasted hoagie filled with juicy chicken, sautéed peppers, and melted cheese, perfect for any day of the week.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese or your cheese of choice
- 4 hoagie rolls, lightly toasted
- Optional: Cooked mushrooms or jalapeños for added flavor
- Optional: Hot sauce for serving
Instructions
- Start by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Toss in the sliced onions and bell peppers, then sauté them for about five minutes until they’re soft and slightly caramelized.
- Add the thinly sliced chicken breast to the skillet. Season everything with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook the chicken until it’s golden brown and cooked through, roughly seven to eight minutes. Be sure to stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Once the chicken is cooked, place the provolone cheese slices on top and cover the skillet. Let the cheese melt for about a minute.
- Time to assemble! Grab a toasted hoagie roll and pile high the cheesy chicken and veggies inside. If you like, add any optional toppings or sauces to elevate the flavor.
- Serve the sandwiches hot with your favorite sides like crispy fries or a fresh salad.
Notes
Feel free to customize the vegetables or use different cheese. For healthier options, substitute with whole-grain rolls or grilled tofu.
