Description
Deliciously fluffy and buttery garlic naan that pairs perfectly with your favorite Indian dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons yogurt (Greek or regular)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted ghee
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (optional)
- Extra butter or ghee for brushing
Instructions
- Combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Pour in the warm water, followed by the yogurt and olive oil (or ghee). Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Dust your countertop with flour and transfer the dough onto it. Knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Form the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
- Punch the dough down, divide into 6 pieces, and shape into small balls. Let them rest for about 10 minutes.
- Mix minced garlic with melted ghee or butter, and combine herbs if using.
- Preheat your skillet over medium-high heat. Roll out each dough ball into an oval about ¼ inch thick.
- Brush one side of the dough with the garlic butter mixture and place garlic-side down on the skillet.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
- Serve warm and enjoy your homemade garlic naan!
Notes
For a vegan version, use plant-based yogurt and olive oil instead of ghee.
