  • Author: zenola-morgan
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A delightful and versatile dish made with apples and pears, perfect for enhancing breakfast, dessert, or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 3 medium pears, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Water or apple juice (for simmering)

Instructions

  1. Start by prepping your fruit. Peel, core, and dice the apples and pears into even-sized pieces.
  2. In a large pot, combine the diced apples and pears with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla extract if using. Toss everything gently to coat the fruit evenly.
  3. Add a splash of water or apple juice to the pot to prevent sticking and provide moisture.
  4. Turn your stovetop to medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
  5. After around 15-20 minutes, notice how the apples and pears soften. Remove from heat if you prefer a chunkier texture.
  6. Once you achieve the desired consistency, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool.
  7. Enjoy warm or let it cool completely before refrigerating.

Notes

For a sugar-free version, try natural sweeteners. This compote is vegan and gluten-free friendly.
