Description
A classic dessert featuring sweet and tart apples topped with a buttery, crumbly mixture, baked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (optional for thickening)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted) or coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8-inch baking dish by greasing it lightly.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into even wedges. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour (if using). Toss everything until well-coated.
- In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, melted butter, salt, and cinnamon. Mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Fold in nuts if using.
- Pour the spiced apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the apples.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the apples are bubbly and tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a healthier dessert, substitute butter with coconut oil and use honey or maple syrup instead of sugar.
