Description

A classic dessert featuring tender baked apples topped with a crunchy oat mixture, perfect for any day of the year.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups of sliced, peeled apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of cold unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
  • Optional: nuts like walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Spread the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Mix rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt in another bowl. Add cold butter and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apple layer.
  5. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  6. Allow cooling for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Consider using whole wheat flour for more fiber or swapping some sugar with applesauce for natural sweetness.
